alana: hi, mommy!

me: hi, baby angel! how are you?

alana: guess what mama cat did to me today?

me: what?

alana: she scratched me *AND* made me bweed (interpretation: bleed).

me: really? what happened?

alana (now on the defensive): well...she was SCRATCHING on grandma's door!

me: oh. so, did you go out and yell at her (alana has a tendency to yell at animals when they don't do as she wants them to) and she got mad and scratched you?

alana: no. i *kicked* her. (in this 'well-duh-mom-why-wouldn't-i-kick-her?' voice)
